ToonPhoto App Reviews
update: Im figuring out how to make it work for me…but it is still only a half baked version of an excellent iPhone app. I love the iPhone version of this app because it can be a lot more creative and pro than the developers show you. But, the Mac version is like a beta and doesnt even have nearly as many features as the much cheaper iPhone app. Was expecting so much more and Im hoping for some serious updates.
Needs work but it is as close as any filter that I have run across that I use to use in PaintShop Pro when running a PC. It would be nice to see the orginal along side the rendered piece while working on it and not in frame as this version does. Also need the option of saving to .jpg. You can export to .png and switch it to .jpg, but this is a pain.
I was needing an easy tool for an illustration effect for a book that a low tech user could manage - and this was easy to use and just the type of effects required!
The iphone app is better. Please update this app. I feel like I being short changed. Do the right thing and update this app so its just like the iphone app. All the cool options of the iphone app make it an amazing app...pass on that amazing stuff to this app. look forward to the APP......please dont make us regret spending $9.99 on this app.
If you like ToonPaint youll be very disapointed by the Mac version. For 10 times the price, theres not much controls and its sloooow. A lost of money.
I love this apps so much on the iPhone that I found myself emailing photos to my iPhone just to process and then send back to photoshop on my mac for final refinish. Now I can do it all on my Mac. Same basic controls as the iphone app. A great 1.0 version. Wil only get better with time. -- JJ
Ive also been using this on the iPhone and have been waiting for the Mac version. This is a good start, but it could still be improved. Theres some bugs when trying to export an image when in full screen mode, and the zoom factor could be improved (using gestures to zoom in, and maybe more defined zoom levels (actual size, 100%, 50% etc.)). Overall, Im happy with this 1.0 version. Looking forward to more enhancements and fixes.
This app rocks on the iPhone. I gave it 5 stars, but the desktop version blows. I spend $9.99 expecting at least double of the features. To my dissapointment this version has half of the features and controls that I have on the ToonPaint app. I know the developers will come with something more robust in the future, but now I cant color or adjust the lengt and thikness of the lines like in the iPhone. Please add those features and Ill come back with 5 stars for this app as well.
I was really excited when I saw this was available. I want the ability to create the higher resolution toon paints. This one does allow me to do that so for that I can give it 3 stars, But it lacks the nice user interface, It looks very incomplete. The images I can create are decent and in some cases real nice. As for the user interface though it seems super cheesy. This has been one of my all time favorite filter / photo effect programs on my iPhone and my iPads. Please work on making this a finished product because $9.99 is too high for the program presented as it is. Honestly, I wanted to rave about this product to friends but not yet.
Like many others, I had hopes for this software, being a big fan of the iPhone version. The Mac version of this app still produces excellent hand-drawn style images, with a fair amount of control over the finished product. And thats mostly what counts. But the interface needs major work. The preview is clunky, shrinking to fit the image by default (and thus obscuring the detail), and taking a fair amount of time to (inefficiently) zoom in or out on the preview. The actual editing window lacks the style and usability expected of a Mac app (though iPhone users will recognize the contols and layout). Lastly, there needs to be a separate slider for adjusting the outlines in the new image without adding blacks or greys to the whole image. Not a terrible start on the Mac, but has a ways to go to warrant a 5-star rating.
Waste. Dont Buy.
The iPhone and iPad version are super cool and work great. This one stinks.
Horrible!
Extremely limited control over images! Took a chance with this app and I am very sad.
I believe some of the other reviewers have unfairly compared this app to the iPad/iPhone apps by the same developer. This is unfortunate as the programs have a different character. ToonPhoto does not have the pencil sketching aspects of ToonPaint HD, but deals with the cartoon effects in a different manner. The conrols are simple but I find them subtle and quite effective. I do believe that if the Developers can combine the controls of both apps in one program and manage to keep all controls independent they will have an awesome app. I encourage them to continue their development. I have tried a lot of photo/sketch apps in the past and believe this developer has gotten closer to the intent of such programs than most if not all others. I have held back from the five stars because I believe they can take this further as pointed out above. When they produce a combined package with the same quality I will unhesitatingly give all five stars!
